Management of male pattern baldness DIP, Volume 10, Number 5.
Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is a common, probably dominantly inherited, progressive, non-scarring form of alopecia that develops symmetrically at specific sites on the scalp and can eventually cause almost complete scalp hair loss. Thirty per cent of white men are affected by the age of 30 and 50% by the age of 50.1 The recent UK launch of an effective non-surgical therapy, finasteride, has brought male pattern baldness to prominence.
